Join us for a performance and reading Griot: The Circle of Souls, a play written and directed by Alizee Ndiaye. It explores West African storytelling traditions while examining the evolving role of the Griot in post-colonial society. Through this powerful work, audiences are invited to find hope and gain perspective on human balance, collective meaning, and our shared frequency as both individuals and community.
Alizee Ndiaye has been developing this work as part of the Chakula Artist Development Hub, an innovative artist residency program for Black, African and Caribbean LGBTQ+ artists.
The performance and reading will be followed by a social with music and refreshments at the bar to celebrate the end of this year’s pilot residency.

Everyone is welcome! Please note that this space is created for and by Black LGBTQ+ people. Our goal is to amplify the community through this creative intervention.

About Artist-in-Development
Alizée Ndiaye is a multidisciplinary creative/culture curator from France who transitioned from social work to London's creative scene in 2019. She founded Don't Touch My Heritage (DTMH) to uplift Black and Brown artists. Alizée focuses on costume/set design, art curation, and storytelling. Her work centers on decolonization and positive storytelling, aiming for equity.

The Chakula programme is a monthly series of events, workshops and dialogues geared towards supporting and empowering Black and African LGBTQ+ communities at The Africa Centre.
