This service is free for you to access. It is funded by Cycling UK, using funding from UK Government. The UK Government, Cycling UK and Breaking Cycles CIC share aims to:

• Encourage people who don’t cycle to have a go.
• Encourage people who don’t cycle much to cycle more.
• Encourage people to replace short car journeys with cycling.
• Ensure that the bikes people are riding are safe and fit for purpose.
• Educate people about safe and correct cycling strategies.

Cycling UK will email a short survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, to participants shortly after you attend an event and around 3 months after that.

These surveys inform data which shows the impact of our work and justifies future funding for these free events.

If you need more encouragement to provide an email address that you check regularly and fill in the survey, Cycling UK send out free gifts to everyone who fills in both surveys!

A bike kitchen combines elements of learn to fix sessions and ‘Dr Bike’ fix sessions. This is an opportunity for participants to both learn how to do things themselves and have work done to a professional standard, giving that peace of mind you need to feel safe and in control.

Bring your bike to us for a check, to get some work done or ask for support doing it yourself.

A ‘Bike Kitchen’ is a flexible service which allows participants to

• Ask a professional to do some work on your bike
• Learn how perform routine checks and maintenance on your own bike
• Get advice, guidance and support with a maintenance task that you’re almost confident you can do yourself
• Use tools that you might not have at home to fix your bike
• What should I expect?

The events we have run a short, ride, walk or paddle down the canal in Lomoshaye park have become extremely popular and busy, so we have developed a system for queueing. Please be patient with us on the day if you are having to wait.

It is OK to just turn up on the day, but participants who have booked in advance will be given priority.

Refreshments will be available during the event for participants to enjoy whilst waiting their turn.

We cannot carry a stock of all of the parts your bike might need and provide them for free, so some parts might not be available or might not be free.

Small, consumable parts such as brake blocks, inner tubes and cables are provided free of charge.

We carry some stock of common parts, which are for sale at reasonable prices. This includes chains, cassettes, Tyres, handlebar grips etc.

We operate a pay what you can policy and expect participants to pay at least half of the RRP as this is usually our trade price.

Prices displayed on parts are the retail price. If you can afford to pay full price, that enables us to help someone else who can't afford to pay at all. So far, this has enabled us to provide subsidised parts to those who need them, this is a testement to the kindness and support of the communities we work with!

Occasionally, people donate part worn parts to us. We give these to participants free of charge.
