Chad Anderson presents Gay Mormon Dad with Daryl Richard Lawrence

All his life, Chad Anderson was told he was broken. He believed with all his heart that being a good Mormon would make him straight, because that is what he was told. Chad followed the prescribed road map: mission, marriage, and children. But it didn’t make him happy, and it didn’t make him straight. For Chad, coming out meant losing everything and starting again.

Gay Mormon Dad is the story of one man learning to love himself in a complicated world. This inspiring autobiography unfolds in two parts, “Then” and “Now,” woven together in a way that will hit you right in the heart. Vibrantly illustrated by artist Remy Burke, this moving graphic novel sheds light on the dangers of spiritual abuse and illuminates the path to healing.

Chad Anderson is a father, social worker, and writer based in Salt Lake City. Chad pursues his passions and interests as a writer through graphic novel and comic book scripts, poetry, and essays. Chad produced the film Dog Valley and hosts the weekly podcast Graymalkin Lane.

Daryl Richard Lawrence is an author and podcast host who lives in the great state of Minnesota. His latest comic-centered book, True North, focuses on the first volume of Marvel's superhero team Alpha Flight. His past works also include a book on the first 20 years of Linda Ronstadt's solo career and a dual biography of his great-great and great-grandmothers. For his day job, Daryl is the Museum Facilities Manager at the Bell Museum and also serves in the University of Minnesota's shared governance structure as the chair of the Civil Service Senate and member of the Senate Library Committee.

Q: Do I need to register?

A: Please do if at all possible! Use the registration button above. Registering ahead of time helps us with scheduling, book ordering, and other decisions that are made several weeks prior to the event. The more info we have ahead of time, the better.

With a registered list, we can also easily and directly communicate event updates such as postponements or cancellations.

If you are unable to sign up online, please call or visit the bookstore and register with a bookseller.

Walk-ins are always welcome, but seating decisions are made based on registered attendance and seating priority is given to registered attendees first.

Q: Are in store events free?

A: Yes, Magers & Quinn events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Q: Are masks required?

A: Masks are not required to browse in the store or at most events. Some events may come with a request for masking for the health and safety of the author. If so it will be noted here whenever possible.
