Ceramic Shrine: Hand Building Technique Class
About this Event
You’ll shape a small, illuminated structure; a niche, arch, window, ledge and form, designed to hold a tealight or small candle and cast warm shadows as the evenings draw in. It can be freestanding or wall mounted.
Suitable for all levels, this session encourages intuitive making, sculptural thinking, and the meditative pace of working with clay. Your shrine can be symbolic, playful, architectural, organic, or devotional — the form is entirely yours.
What you’ll do:
- Slab building to form foundations
- Constructing small architectural or sculptural structures
- Creating openings, niches, alcoves and windows for candlelight
- Carving, smoothing and refining surfaces for character and clarity
- Adding motifs, textures, and decorative details. Choose from our earthenware glaze dips
To finish, we will bisque-fire, glaze-dip, and fire again, then return your finished shrine to you by post within 4–6 weeks.
Proceeds go towards our community art projects, providing mental well-being and creative health, especially for those facing barriers.
