Ceramic Design Course in Berlin (4 sessions)
About this Event
Join Our 4-Session Ceramic Design Course!
Discover the fundamentals of ceramic design through a hands-on course that combines practical techniques with the theory behind working with clay. Over four weekly sessions of 2,5 hours each, you will explore different ways of shaping, building, sculpting, and decorating ceramics while developing your own creative project.
Learn an ancient craft while discovering ways to integrate it into contemporary design fields, which could be anything from jewellery to tableware, interior objects and art pieces.
DAY 1 (07.09.) - HAND-BUILDING & CERAMIC DESIGN (19:00-21:30)
We begin by exploring the qualities and possibilities of clay and the fundamentals of ceramic design. You will learn core hand-building techniques and how to prepare and shape clay into a finished form.
After the introduction, you'll get hands-on and create your first ceramic piece, putting the techniques you've learned into practice while developing your own ideas and design.
DAY 2 (14.09.) - SLAB-BUILDING (19:00-21:30)
Slab-building is an essential technique for creating ceramic vessels and objects in a wide range of shapes and functions.
In this session, you'll learn how to prepare and work with slabs of clay, experiment with different forms, and discover practical tips and techniques for building stronger and more refined ceramic objects.
DAY 3 (21.09.) - SCULPTURE (19:00-21:30)
Ceramics goes far beyond functional tableware. In this session, you'll explore clay as a sculptural medium and experiment with techniques for creating three-dimensional forms.
You'll have the opportunity to move beyond traditional vessels and explore your own ideas through sculptural work, developing new ways of expressing yourself with clay.
DAY 4 (28.09.) - GLAZES, COLOR STAINS & OXIDES (19:00-21:30)
The final session is dedicated to colour, surface, and texture. You'll be introduced to glazes, colour stains, and oxides and learn how they can transform the appearance of your ceramic pieces after firing.
Experiment with different combinations, explore colour and texture, and discover ways to give your work its final character.
