Objectifying a Queer Body Thinking Through Materiality är ett forskningsprojekt som har sitt ursprung i min personliga erfarenhet som en queer kropp och som vidareutvecklas till att omfatta reflektioner kring queera perspektiv i samtida västerländsk samhälle. Jag har öppnat en dialog med formar, material och processer för att metaforiskt utforska den inneboende relationen mellan kroppar och objekt.
Vad skulle hända om jag förstår objekt som kroppar och kroppar som objekt? Skulle jag finna samma värderingar som används för att (åter)producera objekt i det samtida samhället också tillämpas när vi (åter)producerar kroppar? Kan formar då förstås som könsnormer – det status quo – genom vilka vi (åter)producerar fasta kropp-objekt och identiteter?
Formar uppfattas ofta som statiska; de tillåter inte förändring eftersom de är avsedda att återskapa samma form om och om igen, till skillnad från exempelvis en hammare, ett verktyg med vilket man kan skapa många olika ting. Jag ser på formar inte bara som verktyg, utan som subjekt själva, och som samarbetspartners med vilka jag kan spekulera och reflektera.
Daniel Ramos Obregón är en tvärvetenskaplig konstnär, designer, dragartist och pedagog från Bogotá, Colombia. Han examinerades från BA i Design vid Universidad de los Andes 2011, MA i Fashion Artefact vid London College of Fashion 2014, och Research Lab Craft vid Konstfack 2024.
Hans verk undersöker ofta begrepp om mänsklig existens, särskilt i samtida samhällen, såsom konstruktionen av jaget i relation till identitet, kön och ras, samt förhållandet mellan sinne och kropp, det andliga och det materiella. Hans praktik är förankrad i ett "tänkande genom skapande" – i ett brett spektrum av medier såsom smycken, keramik och läder – för att skapa högst berättande objekt och bärbar konst. Hans verk har ställts ut vid internationella evenemang som Munich Jewellery Week, den Latinamerikanska Biennalen för samtida smycken, den Lissabon Biennalen för smycken, samt Venedig Design Biennale, liksom på museer och gallerier såsom Liljevalchs Konsthall, De Kerk–Museum Arnhem, Nationalmuseet för Dekorativ Konst i Buenos Aires, Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein, bland andra.

Objectifying a Queer Body Thinking Through Materiality is a research project that originates from my personal experience as a queer body and which expands into thinking about queerness in contemporary western society. I have opened up a dialogue with molds, materials and processes to think metaphorically about the intrinsic relation between bodies and objects.
What if I understand objects as bodies and bodies as objects? Would I find the same values we use to (re)produce objects in contemporary society as we do to (re)produce bodies? Could molds then be understood as the gender norms—the status quo—through which we (re)produce fixed body-objects and identities?
Molds are often perceived as static; they don’t allow change, as they are meant to replicate the same shape over and over, unlike a hammer, a tool with which you can make many different things. I take on molds less as tools but as subjects themselves and collaborators with whom to speculate and reflect with.

Daniel Ramos Obregón is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, drag performer, and educator from Bogotá, Colombia. He graduated from the BA Design from Universidad de los Andes in 2011, the MA Fashion Artefact from the London College of Fashion in 2014, and Research Lab Craft from Konstfack in 2024.
His works often inquire about notions of human existence, specifically in contemporary society, such as the construction of the self in terms of identity, gender, and race, and the relation between mind and body, the spiritual and the material. His practice is rooted in thinking through making—in a wide range of media such as jewellery, ceramics, and leather—to create highly narrative objects and wearable art. His works have been exhibited at international events such as Munich Jewellery Week, the Latinamerican Contemporary Jewellery Biennial, the Lisbon Jewellery Biennial, and the Venice Design Biennale, as well as in museums and galleries like Liljevalchs Konsthall, De Kerk–Museum Arnhem, the Buenos Aires National Museum for Decorative Arts, Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein, among others.
