About this Event
Day 1 – Central Florida Kwanzaa Celebration of Umoja:
Honoring Our Legacy, Inspiring the Future
Habari Gani!
Join us on December 26, 2025, from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Winter Park Community Center for the 26th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration and a vibrant gathering of Umoja (Unity) as we continue the long-standing tradition of Kwanzaa in Winter Park and across Central Florida. Last year, we proudly celebrated 25 years of Kwanzaa in Winter Park and Daytona Beach, along with 36 years of Kwanzaa in Central Florida. This year, we honor that milestone while shifting our focus toward the future—committing ourselves to building the next 50 years of Kwanzaa with intention, joy, and community spirit.
What is Kwanzaa?
Kwanzaa, created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, is a cultural celebration of African heritage rooted in the seven guiding principles of the Nguzo Saba: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). Kwanzaa uplifts cultural identity, community responsibility, and the shared values that strengthen us across the African Diaspora.
Our Legacy
Central Florida’s Kwanzaa tradition began in 1988, led by community visionaries dedicated to uplifting African culture and the Nguzo Saba. In 1999, the first community-wide celebration was held in the historic African American community of Hannibal Square in Winter Park, FL. Over time, the celebration expanded to neighboring communities—including Eatonville, Parramore, Tangelo Park, Sanford, and Daytona Beach—strengthening its regional impact. Last year’s 25th Anniversary marked a major milestone in this powerful legacy, one we remain committed to carrying forward for generations to come.
