Central Alabama Photography Meet & Greet at Sloss Furnaces
Schedule
Sat Sep 20 2025 at 11:00 am to 03:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark | Birmingham, AL
There is no particular theme other than Fall (which in Alabama, looks a lot like Summer, but with a different color scheme). So, if you want to cosplay, just want to imagine cool Autumn breezes, or even if you just want to celebrate football season, join us on SATURDAY, September 20th, from 11am to 3pm at Sloss Furnaces. (Yes, this is not our usual last weekend, but this was the weekend they had available.)
As venues go, Sloss has more limitations than our usual ones, like not being available on Sundays and wanting everyone offsite by 3:30 since they close at 4:00. As a reminder, Sloss is a historic landmark and a workspace, so don’t do anything to damage the location and be prepared for a fair bit of dirt and rust. And as it is one of the most haunted sites in Alabama, don’t be afraid if you see ghosts. Also, to support the historic work they do, all photographers are asked to pay $20 to the venue. Models get in for free, but feel free to make a donation, because it is a great cause, and we do love going there. We always get some AMAZING shots there!
As always, we will have sign-in sheets and model releases at the sign-in table, and everyone is REQUIRED to sign in if they want to participate. This is how we keep track of who to send the drive out to. This is a TFP event, and all usable photos are to be uploaded to a Google Drive folder, which is shared by all participants. Photos of the models are uploaded by the photographers one week after the conclusion of the event with the models receiving the drive two weeks after the conclusion of the event.
Minors under 19 years old are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Age of Majority (the age when a person can execute a contract in Alabama) is 19, so even 18-year-olds must always have a guardian present.
The event uses a shoot-out format, so it’s not uncommon for one model to start posing with a single photographer and several other photographers join in to shoot from other angles. This format allows photographers to share techniques, build skills, and try things that are out of their comfort zone. Same goes for models - they can observe other models for techniques, build their skills base, and learn to pose in groups or with a partner. We have found this approach works better than forcing every participant into a rigid structure where everyone gets the same shots on a schedule.
We reserve the right to refuse entry to or remove from the event any individual being disruptive, threatening, or displaying other inappropriate behaviors.
