This concert features a richly varied program reflecting the Choir’s signature range, from Bach to Broadway, spirituals to hymns, folk music to musical theater. The evening opens with the energetic Swahili setting O Sifuni Mungu, followed by nods to Centenary’s Methodist heritage with Charles Wesley hymns O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing and And Can It Be, in celebrated settings by Eric Nelson and Dan Forrest. Audiences will also enjoy beloved favorites including Homeward Bound, Sing Me to Heaven, Rhythm of Life, Let There Be Peace On Earth, and the spirited Shaker Dance, with a featured student soloist on the spiritual Ain’t Got Time to Die.
The concert’s centerpiece is the continued premiere of the Bicentennial anthem Labor Omnia Vincit, composed by Centenary alumnus and faculty member Dr. James Eakin, with text by Charles Anthony Silvestri. Inspired by the College’s motto, “work conquers all,” the work is joyful, powerful, and deeply rooted in Centenary’s ideals, history, and vision for the future. Join us for an inspiring evening that honors Centenary’s past while celebrating the enduring vitality of its Choir and community.
