Step into the magic of winter at Glen Innish Farm as we celebrate Celtic Christmas in honor of the Winter Solstice—the longest night of the year and the turning point toward the light’s return. Across Celtic tradition, this was a time of gathering, storytelling, and honoring both the darkness and the promise of brighter days ahead.
What to Expect
The Snug – Warm yourself by the hearth of community. Our cozy Snug will serve comforting hot drinks, including mulled wine in the Scottish tradition known as “Yule Spiced Claret”—rich red wine warmed with spices, honey, and citrus. Non-alcoholic options will also be available, from steaming cider to lavender hot chocolate.
Make Your Own Yule Log – Create a traditional Yule Log, adorned with greenery, herbs, and ribbons. You may choose to burn your log in our great Solstice Fire or take it home as a blessing for your hearth.
The Solstice Fire – At dawn, we will kindle our great bonfire using the coals saved from last year’s Solstice blaze. This sacred act symbolizes continuity, resilience, and the unbroken thread of community—passing the flame of the old year into the new. The fire will burn throughout the day, welcoming all who wish to gather, reflect, and add their own Yule Log to the flames.
Connection & Community – Bundle up, stroll the grounds, and join friends, neighbors, and fellow travelers in honoring the season. The Winter Solstice invites us to pause, to share warmth in the cold, and to celebrate the light we bring to one another.
Why the Winter Solstice?
For centuries, Celtic people marked the Solstice as both an ending and a beginning: the darkest night of the year, yet the birth of longer days. It was a time to honor the cycles of nature, reflect on the year past, and kindle hope for the year to come. Here on the farm, this tradition reminds us that just as our fields rest and restore in winter, so too can we.
Join us for this evening of firelight, fellowship, and seasonal ritual as we gather for Celtic Christmas at Glen Innish Farm.
