Celestial Spheres: Create Your Own Planetarium

Prerequisites: This event is for all ages, but children without well-developmed fine motor skills may need help from their grown ups.

Summary:

Bring a bit of the sky down to you! In this guided engineering workshop, you will learn how to design and assemble an orrery: a clockwork machine that demonstrates the regular patterns of motion of the planets in our solar system. You’ll take home a moving model of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, as well as the information you'll need in order to expand it further if you so desire.

Your awesome instructor for this workshop is Emma! Here is what Emma has to say about herself:

Emma is a linguist, folklorist, and textile artist. She's a good person to go to if you want help with the laser cutter or sewing machines, a brainstorming partner for graphic design on a project, advice on historical hand-sewing and embroidery techniques, or strong opinions about the 1997 New York City production of Riverdance.
