In Loving Memory of Harold Allen Jacobus, Jr.
February 25, 1953 – September 23, 2026
Harold Allen Jacobus, Jr., age 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Harold was born on February 25, 1953, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Harold Allen Jacobus, Sr. and Bessie (Butler) Jacobus. He grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Ann Arbor High School.
Throughout his life, Harold was a hardworking man who held a variety of jobs. He worked as a mover for Mayflower, transported equipment for the University of Michigan football team, and spent time working in manufacturing.
Outside of work, Harold enjoyed bowling, race cars, and collecting antiques. He was also known for his willingness to lend a helping hand. In his healthier years, Harold was often the person people called when they needed help moving, and his children knew they could count on him when plumbing problems arose. Whether the job was big or small, Harold was always willing to pitch in and help someone in need.
His generous spirit extended into his church and community. Harold volunteered to drive a route picking up children for Wednesday night Kids Club and helped gather information toward the installation of a playground fence behind the church, making outdoor activities safer for children attending church functions. He also participated in community outreach efforts at the local fairgrounds, helping deliver appliances as area churches joined together to distribute appliances, school supplies, and other necessities to families in need. Harold had a servant's heart and found meaningful ways to put his faith into action.
Harold is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carole; his sons, Philip Andrew Jacobus and James Andrew Jacobus; his stepchildren, Tammie Fiddie, Heather Fiddie, and Stephen Fiddie; his grandchildren, Jonah Jacobus and Juliana Jacobus; and his many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by his sister, Stephanie Graff, and brother, John Jacobus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Francis; and his stepson, Michael Fiddie, who passed away in 2018.
Above all, Harold was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and his faith was an important part of who he was. He often shared the story of how he came to know Jesus while sitting at a kitchen table, where he invited Christ into his heart and life. Harold trusted in the Lord and regularly expressed his gratitude for God's faithfulness and provision, recognizing how God had cared for his needs throughout his life.
One experience Harold especially wanted others to know about occurred during a time when he was on life support. In the midst of that difficult experience, Harold shared that he could feel the hand of God holding on to him. This was more than simply a comforting memory for Harold. It was a powerful reminder of the presence of the Savior he loved and trusted. His testimony reflected a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, a faith that sustained him through life's challenges and gave him the assurance of God's unfailing love.
A memorial service celebrating Harold's life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Hillsdale Free Methodist Church, located at 150 Union Street in Hillsdale, Michigan.
A dinner will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the church, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and offer encouragement and support to one another.
All who knew Harold are warmly invited to attend as we remember his life, give thanks for the time shared with him, and celebrate the hope of eternal life that is found in Jesus Christ.
Memorial contributions can be made to Carol Jacobus directly.
