Hi all, below is a note from Robert's brothers Ed & James Yu about Robert including details about the upcoming celebration of life for him. I plan on attending the celebration and hope you all can join me - KenRobert was a cherished brother, proud uncle and devoted son. He was academically and artistically gifted. He worked hard to achieve the American Dream through his expertise in electrical engineering and computer science, complete with a patent portfolio. Robert has always been kind, generous, and eccentric. Some describe him as a renaissance man, others would describe him as quirky. He was both of those things. He dedicated his time and talent to helping others. Each week he volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank and worked his way up to being a supervisor; so that he could drive a forklift! Robert was passionate about his service at Habitat for Humanity. He was fulfilled by HH’s mission, work and the people. He loved the HH community and spoke often about it, especially his recent trip to El Salvador to build a home for a disadvantaged family. Robert was also an artist from a young age. Through his drawings and paintings, he shared the beauty of people and the world through his eyes. Making art was his way of sharing perspective; art was his sanctuary.
Robert was a private person, but he was part of many different communities. Most of us only knew one aspect of his life, but we all knew that he loved to share joy with those around him. The best way to honor Robert’s memory is to gather the communities he touched and share happy memories.
We invite you to join us to celebrate Robert, get to know all parts of his life, and make new connections while enjoying his artwork. The event will take place at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara on Sunday, July 14, from 4:30 - 7:30pm. If you know of friends of Robert who are not already on the invite list, please email [email protected]
The agenda is fairly informal. Robert was not a formal guy. Guests can come and go as they like. The 3 hours are organized as follows:
4:30 pm - open reception (meet & greet, food & drink in the rotunda, view Robert’s art in one of the galleries)
5:30 pm - assemble in another gallery for welcome, and speeches. Aside from a few planned speakers, including you, the hour is open to anyone who’d like to share commentary
6:30 pm - dessert & coffee in the rotunda, encourage guests to continue to view artwork
In lieu of flowers please dedicate a donation to charitable organizations that Robert supported:
- Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley: habitatebsv.org
- Second Harvest: https://tinyurl.com/2j97t3n6
We look forward to meeting you. Enjoy Robert’s artwork at https://linktr.ee/robertyu?
May Robert’s spirit of joy and kindness lead you all to your best lives.
