A Celebration of Life for Patricia Louise “Pat” Morey
Please join friends, colleagues, loved ones, and community members as we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Patricia Louise “Pat” Morey (1952–2025)—a beloved friend, mentor, advocate, and community leader whose life was deeply rooted in the pursuit of social justice, equity, and care for others.

Pat dedicated much of her life to advocating for women, LGBTQ+ people, survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and others whose rights and safety were too often overlooked. Early in her career, she helped establish Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center in Decatur and served as its first director, and later served for seven years as Director of Rape Crisis Services in Champaign-Urbana. She went on to become the founding Director of the Women’s Resources Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she spent decades advancing gender and LGBTQ+ equity, safety, education, and advocacy.
Pat earned both a Master of Social Work and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. Across her many roles—as an activist, educator, mentor, colleague, and friend—Pat brought an unmistakable combination of determination, humor, generosity, and heart to her work and relationships.
This gathering is an opportunity to remember Pat in the fullness of the life she lived and the communities she helped build. Come share a memory, a story, or simply your presence. All are welcome.
Light refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Patricia L. Morey Scholarship Fund at the University of Illinois School of Social Work.
