Celebration in Clay: Wood and Fire
September 12th - 13th
Will be held at Cyndy Littleton's property using her custom built wood fire kiln.
4255 Nicelytown Rd, Clifton Forge, VA, United States
The Wood Fire:
Participants will need to bring pots which are cone 10 clay and bisque fired. Potters may bring enough pots for a 24 x 24 shelf and no taller than 9 inches. Plates are not recommended. There will be several different glazes including shinos and ash glazes as well as two flashing slips. On the first day we will glaze, wad, and then load the wood fire kiln.
Once loaded we will close the kiln and begin the firing process which takes about 26 hours. Participants will be asked to sign up for shifts to stoke the kiln. For the night owls, bring a tent and camp by our river! Light snacks and cold drinks will be provided. Breakfast will be offered on the 13th.
The kiln will be unloaded on September 16th. Arrangements can be made for either picking up on September 16th in the afternoon or delivery on September 19 to a location in Roanoke.
For Celebration in Clay: Wood and Fire, the fees will be as follows:
Wood firing: $200 (Limited to 12 participants)
For those wishing to observe: FREE!
