Celebrating Single Player A Night with Tara Tai

Get ready for an evening of passion, rivalry, romance, and gaming! On Wednesday, February 12, Tara Tai will unpack her debut novel, Single Player—a queer enemies-to-lovers workplace romance where two video game creators go head-to-head in a battle of wills, sparks, and stolen glances.

Throughout this conversation with author Kim Swizz, Tara will dive into gamer Easter eggs, razor-sharp wit, and heartfelt storytelling. Whether you’re a fan of queer romance or gaming culture (or both!), this is a night you won’t want to miss.

  With conversation partner, Kim Swizz. The discussion will conclude with a Q&A session.

ABOUT TARA TAI
Tara Tai is an Asian American writer living in Boston, where she spends most of her time playing TTRPGs and romancing video game NPCs. When she's not lost in imaginary worlds, she's annoying her wife Audrey and dog Gingko. Single Player is her debut novel.

ABOUT SINGLE PLAYER
A queer enemies-to-lovers workplace romance debut, perfect for fans of TJ Alexander and Helen Hoang, Single Player follows Cat Li, a passionate gamer and hopeless romantic, who lands her dream job writing the love storylines for Compass Hollow, the next big thing in gaming. But her excitement quickly turns to frustration when she meets her boss, Andi Zhang, an arrogant narrative director with a deep disdain for love stories, determined to keep Cat from doing her job. Andi, still reeling from a public doxxing scandal, is focused solely on proving they’re a serious game developer, with no room for romance in the narrative. That is, until the game’s funder insists on adding romance to appeal to female gamers. Forced to work together, Andi slowly realizes there’s more to Cat than her idealism and her cute smile, but letting her in would mean giving up the “single-player” life that’s protected their heart for years. When Cat uncovers a behind-the-scenes plot to destroy Andi’s career, the two must put their differences aside to save the game—and maybe their own hearts—before it’s game over.

ABOUT KIM SWIZZ

After nearly half a decade of practicing law, Kim Swizz is now a recovering attorney, living her best life writing small-town romance. Kim has always had a passion for creative writing but has never published a novel (unless you count the book she wrote and had bound in first grade, a titillating story entitled “The Cat is Eating”) — until now. She is excited to leave behind the days of drafting contracts and start this new chapter.

A forever Jersey girl turned former Arizona resident, Kim now calls Boston home with her husband, though they love to travel together.

Kim is never without her emotional support Kindle. When she is not writing spicy scenes or making her readers cry, you can find her crocheting tiny things, knitting, embroidering, cross-stitching, bullet journaling — you get the point.
