HVMAC is celebrating NAIDOC week at all five locations! Our instructors learnt Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games and the stories behind them at an amazing staff pd by Dhinewan Mentoring, Jono Wright. We feel honoured to be able to spread the information to our martial arts community through physical games, something we can teach well! Each game has an origin story and teaches important skills in cooperation, patience, leadership, empathy and respect. Each year we aim to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture by teaching the games and telling the stories behind them, we do this within the normal class times so that the learning is engrained. We also do a colouring-in competition of the NAIDOC poster, so that our students take the colouring-in home as a conversation starter, and the winner will be drawn after NAIDOC week.
