Celebrating LatinX Heritage with Tanisha

Hispanic Heritage Celebration is a vibrant and colorful event that honors the rich cultural contributions and traditions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It features a dynamic blend of music, dance, art, and storytelling, showcasing the diversity and heritage of Hispanic cultures. The celebration fosters appreciation, pride, and a deeper understanding of Hispanic history and its impact on the broader community.

Tanisha Galarza Figueroa is a Puerto Rican cuatro player, singer, and songwriter. She began playing at the age of 9 and later attended the Ernesto Ramos Antonini School of Fine Arts in Yauco, Puerto Rico. She participated in the Accelerated Music Camp and Berklee in Puerto Rico. When she entered university, she started composing songs and recorded her first tracks, including “Dijiste que confiabas,” “Entiendo Tu Partida,” and “Mi corazón Te Llama.” She then competed in Pa La Tarima” and Medalla Light and was one of the winners who had the opportunity to perform at the Coca-Cola Music Hall. She began her acoustic set 2.5 years ago and performs all over Puerto Rico. During this time, she decided to debut in salsa with notable collaborators such as Norberto Vélez, Carlos García, Wiso Rivera, arranger Ceferino Caban, producer Rolo, and many other talented musicians. She has performed her songs “Oye,” “No Hay Que Impida Quererte,” and “Ya No Se Siente Igual.” In December 2023, she participated in the Banco Popular Special, where she performed with alumni from the Accelerated Music Camp. Her most recent single is “I’ll Be There,” a modern salsa rendition of the Jackson 5 hit. She is known for incorporating the Puerto Rican cuatro into each of her songs. Looking ahead, she plans to continue expanding her knowledge and remain active in the music industry, representing her homeland and the national instrument.
