In celebration of Freedom, JCMOMA is holding an art contest!
We invite you to submit an original painting or drawing of what symbolizes Freedom for you.
Purvis Young, (1943-2010) was a self-taught African-American artist who spent many years living off the streets, painting and creating pieces using discarded and ordinary objects as canvases. His paintings make rich use of symbolism. Young used a wild horse, untamed, and free to represent the hope of freedom and freedom itself in his paintings.
We invite you to submit an original painting or drawing of what symbolizes Freedom for you.
- Submissions must have a registration form completed and artwork be delivered to JCMoma during open museum times or by appointment before July 1st.

- Submissions must be a sketch or painting, any size.
- Submissions will be considered in two divisions:
5 to 13 year old student &
14 years thru Adult!
-a selection of finalist & award win will be on display July 4th.
Celebrating Freedom 250 years!
Multiple $100 & $50 Honorable Mention awards will be given in each division.
July 4, 2026 JCMOMA will be open Noon to 6pm for walk in tours before the Independence Day parade!
Celebrating Freedom finalist and winners will be also be on display!
