About this Event
Bring your inquisitive mind along with your appetite! We welcome you to join us for a special treat courtesy of our Lead Instructor, Sydney Dow, for a special Chef’s Table Dinner celebrating Black History Month. The menu is inspired by the evolution of Soul Food and how the African-American Plate has evolved and changed through time, as influenced by laws, society, and class systems.
You’ll get to sit back and relax as you learn and taste treasured flavors like greens, grits, and fried green tomatoes through a contemporary lens that appeals to modern cooking techniques and current palates.
Chef demonstration. You will be served dinner, but you will not be cooking in this class. For ages 13 and up. 21 or older? You’ll enjoy a glass of wine paired with your meal.
Chef Bio:
Sydney Dow has a long history of cooking with influential women, starting with watching her grandmother and mother in the kitchen. She attended the University of Houston for both culinary and hospitality degrees and became the first Black Female Executive Chef at University of Houston Clearlake campus. After her role as Head Chef at a golf course and country club in California, she was a private chef before coming to Central Market as a Chef Instructor ten years ago. Her personal roots are deep in Southern food but her 22 years of professional cooking and teaching have expanded her viewpoint and taken her on a culinary journey. Her passion for food is matched only by her love of educating.
