About this Event

Join Lavender the Herbal Fairy of arkansawblk's orbit and Dena P. of Serenity Urban Wellness at Crump Park for a magical day celebrating Black Fae Day!

Black Fae Day: Realms & Factions

📅 Date: May 9
⏰ Time: 11-2pm
📍 Location: Crump Park

Black Fae Day is a joyful, family-friendly fantasy event where children and adults get to play, imagine, and explore together. Entry is free, but RSVP is required for all participants. We center Black joy and this event is open to all. Come dressed in your fairy best!

Pre-order fairy t-shirts and swag (for any t-shirt questions email [email protected]).

This year’s gathering invites you to step into Realms & Factions—a living fairy tale where multiple magical realms coexist, each offering moments of artmaking, storytelling, and connection. Think of it like stepping into a storybook for the day.

Come dressed as your favorite fairy, mermaid, mystical being—or arrive as you are and transform on site ✨

The Magical Realms

When you arrive, guests will receive a Treasure Hunt Card. As you explore the realms, you’ll collect a mark or stamp from each one. Visit all the realms and return your completed card to claim a small prize from the treasure booty ✨

🌊 Water Realm (Mermaid Grove)
A magical space inspired by the sea, where guests can meet a Mermaid and take photos together.

🌿 Land Realm (Lavendula Meadow)
A creative fairy space where guests can make fairy wands and explore hands-on crafting.

🌬 Air Realm (Cloudwhisper Hollow)
A gentle sensory play area designed for imagination and calm play — perfect for anyone needing a soft pause.

🔮 Spirit Realm (Mystic Cove)
A space for curiosity and magic, featuring artistic vendors with enchanting items for sell.

🌞 Fire Realm (Sunplay Field)
An active play area with outdoor games, bouncy houses, and a live DJ for movement, laughter, and connection.

Guests may visit one realm or all of them — the adventure is self-guided. There is no right or wrong way to participate — you can wander, rest, create, and have fun in whatever way feels best to you.

Fun Facts:

  • International Black Fae day is an annual holiday on the second Saturday of May for Black folks who love everything about the world of fantasy.
  • It's also a day to dress like the fairy or any other magical being of your dreams, and post it on social media using #BlackFaeDay. The idea started as many great ones do: with a tweet. Black Fae Day was founded by artist and cultural organizer Jasmine LaFleur as a celebration of Black imagination, fantasy, and collective joy.
  • There will be magical items e.g. wings, crowns, fairy t-shirts for purchase
  • This is a kid-friendly event as we encourage caretakers to bring their little ones to participate in the festivities with them. We will not be providing child-care, but we will offer activities for the young humans to have just as much fun ad the adults.

We encourage you to bring:

  • Good vibes!
  • Playful energy!
  • Respect to fae-friends and community

Lavender is a mystical herbal fairy who loves to spread joy by teaching about ecology and hosting healing gatherings. She is a multi-dimensional creative and restorative facilitator with 9 years of experience who sews together healing, kinship, ecology, and imagination.

A native of Little Rock, AR and a global nomad, Lavender teaches environmental science vocabulary, nature-based art, and encourages people to (re)connect with nature in an analog way. She also hosts outdoor adventures for communities to foster and nurture their relationship with the natural world. Lavender is an herbal fairy because many plants have medicinal properties and it's her fairy special job to learn about them and share the knowledge with others!

She opened this business inspired by her desire to help heal the relationship between people and the natural environment. By trade she is a nature educator, urban gardener, apiarist, plant medicine student, curator of healing spaces for Queer, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and collage artist for the past 6 years. Her work aims to center the needs of underestimated communities' health and wholeness, create joy-filled spaces, and to dismantle oppressive systems that divide communities and harm nature.

You can usually find Lavender teaching a class, frolicking on nature trails, drawing, and smelling the flowers at local parks. To learn more about plants and upcoming gatherings click here to subscribe to her newsletter Shrinking Violets do Bloom and check out her Instagram for fun educational videos!

I’m Dena Patterson, the founder of Serenity Urban Wellness 501 (c)(3) non-profit, the owner of True Serenity Accessories, a yoga facilitator, a wellness advocate, a licensed cosmetologist for over 20 years, a USDA farmer, a beekeeper, and a servant who wears many hats. I'm grateful to hold spaces that allow others to slow down, breathe, and become intentional about practicing self-love and serving their community. It’s my goal to share spaces that will enable others to escape survival mode for a few hours and tap into the peace that resides within. Let that peace reign in our daily love by practicing self-love, pouring that substance into others, and serving the community.

I have learned that many people operate in a state of survival mode. We have forgotten the importance of slowing down and setting healthy boundaries. I also worked in survival mode for many years. I was raised in a family that practiced giving, serving others, always being on time, standing for what was right, and never giving up, even when it seemed like we were losing. I now understand that even a loss can teach you valuable lessons and wisdom. When I started working with the bees and began beekeeping, it confirmed my understanding of the importance of love and serving others and the community. The Queen bee is not the heartbeat of the hive; the workers are.

When we continue to love, forgive, learn from our past, and release hurts and fears. We can then embrace our future. Our bios should be a small fragment of who we are; our daily life and lifestyle should be a living representation of who we are, and our walking testimonies should be a testament to our authenticity. When we leave this earthly realm, what bio will be written between the sunrise and sunset?
