Join a global celebration of collage and explore the art of analog collage-making!
About this Event

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn essential tools and techniques while creating your own Victorian home-inspired collages.

Led by local artist Liz Scotta, who has been crafting collages since 2019 using magazine cutouts and everyday materials, this class offers insight into her creative process. Liz’s piece, Zoom Meeting, was accepted into the de Young On the Edge exhibition in 2020.

This class is limited to ten students.

What to Expect

Over three hours, Liz will guide you through surrealistic collage techniques, showing you how to layer materials and construct both realistic and dreamlike images of San Francisco’s iconic Victorian architecture.

You'll work with magazines, scissors, glue, and wooden sub stacks to complete two unique Victorian home collages—one on paper and one on a wooden block.

What You’ll Learn
  • Fundamentals of layering papers and images in analog collage
  • How to "draw with scissors" in the style of Matisse
  • Techniques used by collage artists like Matisse and Romare Bearden

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for this expressive medium and two finished collages of your own.

Don’t miss this opportunity to create, learn, and celebrate the art of collage!

Liz Scotta: A Visionary Collage Artist

Liz Scotta is an acclaimed artist and illustrator renowned for her imaginative approach to collage and visual storytelling. Her captivating works have gained international recognition, and on World Collage Day, May 10, 2025, she will share her surrealistic techniques, inspiring others to embrace the art of collage.

Liz’s artistic journey took a transformative turn during the COVID-19 pandemic. Constrained by lockdowns, she began crafting collages using magazine cutouts and everyday materials. This newfound passion led her to create over 300 unique works, including her surreal Biblical series, with standout pieces like Adam & Eve and the Temptation of Bacon and The Last Supper During Covid, reimagined with only four disciples.

In 2020, her collage, Zoom Meeting, was accepted into the prestigious de Young On the Edge exhibition and her creative reflections culminated in her book, Not Just Paris: Scenes From France. This collection features over 20 collages from her inventive “virtual vacation.” By 2024, Liz had solidified her place in the art world, completing a residency at the Kolaj Institute in New Orleans and presenting three solo exhibitions: at Alliance Française San Francisco, Alliance Française Berkeley, and Inglewood Galleries at Ballast Coffee Shop.

Liz has also authored three travel-inspired books: My Sketchbook of San Miguel de Allende, Travels With a Sketchbook, and Not Just Paris: Scenes From France. While her artistic roots lie in illustration, studying Life Drawing under Diane Olivier, her focus shifted to analog collage in 2019.

Inspired by art history and contemporary movements, including Otto Dix and the dystopian imagery of Metropolis, Liz infuses her work with humor, history, and surrealism. Her latest pieces explore English interiors, influenced by prompts from the London-based Room Portrait Club.

Through her books, exhibitions, and workshops, Liz Scotta continues to redefine the boundaries of collage art, inviting audiences to see the world through her imaginative lens.
