Celebrate the Haw River by Collecting Macroinvertebrates

Join Haw River Assembly between 1:30 amd 3:30 pm as we find and identify critters from the Haw River! Participants can view and collect macroinvertebrates with our staff and learn how critters help us determine the water quality.

We will be stationed by the riverside at Saxapahaw Island Trail. Look for the Haw River Assembly signage at the Saxapahaw Island parking lot, directing you toward our station. All ages are welcome! Email [email protected] or call 336-942-4031 if you have questions.

This hike is part of a celebration of the Haw River including the 2025 International Paddling Film Festival hosted that evening by Haw River Canoe and Kayak, and many excellent river partners. The event, in Saxapahaw, includes:

10 am -- noon -- Celebrate the Haw River Trail with a Wildflower Walk. More info here.

1-3 pm -- 4-mile Mountains-to-Sea Trail/Haw River Trail hike led by the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources' Hometown Strong division. More info here.

5:30 pm -- River Social at Haw River Ballroom
