OUR ANNIVERSARY SHOW !!!Celebrating 13 years of The Laughing Academy!
Tyler Fowler (TLA Stand Up Instructor) , Jimmy Carrane (TLA Improv Instructor) Laura Hugg (TLA Stand Up Instructor), Monica Matsakis (TLA Storytelling Instructor) and Kim Greene Hiller (TLA Owner/Director) take the stage to celebrate 14 years of The Laughing Academy!! Any former or current Laughing Academy students in the audience will also be invited to put their name in a drawing for a five minute spot on the show!!
Tyler Folwer (headliner) fresh off his "My Mom Says I Can't Go" tour, Tyler's witty and clean brand of stand up comedy has made him a favorite around Chicago and across the US. Regularly appearing at Zanies Comedy Clubs and The Laugh Factory Chicago he was named among the 'Best Of The Fest' at the Cleveland Comedy Festival. Tyler's debut album Friends With 401(k) Benefits premiered #1 on iTunes and Top 10 on the Billboard Comedy Charts and he recently recorded a special for Drybar Comedy.
J immy Carrane creator of his own improv training program known as "The Art of Slow Comedy", author of three books on the subject and host of his own podcast, "Improv Nerd", he's interviewed Conan O'brien, Tim eadows Cecily Strong, Jeff Garlin, Key & Peele and more. You may have seen him at TLA with his one man show, "World's Greatest Dad (?). A well-rounded performer Jimmy is known as an improviser, a storyteller, a comedian, and an actor, on both stage and screen.
L aura Hugg is a Chicago-based stand-up comedian, sketch and improv comedy performer, director and emcee. She has performed at clubs like Laugh Factory, Zanies, Second City, shows and festivals throughout the country, and currently hosts Keep Coming Back, a monthly comedy variety show about all forms of recovery, at the Lincoln Lodge and Laughs on a Hot Tin Roof at the Five and Dime in Evanston. She also hosts TLA's open mic the second Tuesday of each month at Ten-ninety Brewery, come on by!
Monica Matsakis is a writer and live storyteller who has shared her work at The Moth, Truth Be Told, Story Lab, This Much is True ,The Laughing Academy and more. She is also a professionally trained actor, most recently appearing as Kate Jerome in Brighton Beach Memoirs at The Citadel Theater. Monica believes in the transformative and healing power of live storytelling, not only for the teller but the audience as well. Connecting and feeling less alone is at our fingertips when we share our journey with one another.
K im Greene Hiller began her professional comedy career at The Second City Chicago, and went on to perform and write at Second City Detroit, as well as teach classes at the Second City Detroit Conservatory. She was a member of Annoyance Theater's mainstage improv troupe Screw Puppies, made regular appearances with long-form improv groundbreakers The Free Associates, and acted in a wide range of industrial videos, voice-overs, and commercials. The one frontier she hadn't conquered was stand-up which has been remedied this last year with classes at her own studio, The Laughing Academy.
