Cedar Bark Harvesting is open to weaving students who have had at least one weaving class. In this class, students will learn the process of gathering and preparing cedar bark for weaving, and safe and sustainable harvesting practices for current and future generations. Students will be in the field for one full day, learning to identify red and yellow cedar trees and how to gather cedar bark. During the classroom session at the Totem Heritage Center, students will treat and process raw materials to make cedar bark that is ready to be woven.
For more information or to sign up, call 225-5900 or email [email protected]
PLEASE NOTE:
Students must be prepared for strenuous field sessions, hiking off-trail, and carrying gear.
Students must be committed to working outside of class to finish processing all harvested cedar, which can take several more hours depending on quantity.
This course is focused on learning the skills necessary to harvest and prepare cedar bark for weaving, not for students to amass a supply of cedar bark. Cedar bark harvested in this class is permitted for personal use only, not for commercial sales.
This class is a requirement for a Certificate of Merit in Weaving. Successful completion is determined by attendance and instructor approval.
