We welcome you to our 4th annual CCVS Canine Blood Drive, in honor of Nero & late Sgt. Sean Gannon, as it is held on the anniversary of their tragic event. Hosted by CCVS, Bourne Police Dept. & State Representative Steven Xiarhos. The purpose of this event is to screen potential blood donors, in order to enroll them in the blood donor program and schedule blood draws in the future.
CCVS team members will be there educating the community about our blood bank and screening eligible canines that are interested in participating. Your pet's donation will provide life-saving blood for pets in need that come into our hospital. Thanks to our courageous blood donors, we were able to save Nero and many other canines that have been brought to us in critical condition.
A canine blood bank is run a bit different from a human blood bank, candidates need to meet a certain criteria to qualify as a blood donor. So, you are welcome to bring your canine friends to this event, but know that to be considered for the initial screening, they must at least meet the criteria listed below. If they meet this criteria, our team will be at this event readily providing a FREE physical exam and blood typing. All canines must be leashed or crated.
Donor Requirements: (canine only)
- Lean body mass of >50lbs & 1-8 years old
- Must be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, on year-round heart worm and flea/tick prevention.
- No prior medical conditions or blood transfusions
