CCSD Summer Chorus 2024: Concert Tickets

This year's CCSD Summer Chorus program will highlight our unique position along the border with Mexico, featuring music primarily in Spanish, from Mexican composers and tradition. Join us to raise your voice alongside neighbors with a wide variety of musical and cultural backgrounds, led by one of Tijuana's most exciting young conductors.

Ibis Laurel, Conductor

Ibis Laurel is a choral and orchestral conductor from Chiapas, Mexico, currently living in Tijuana, Baja California. After completing her bachelor's degree in music education at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Veracruz, Ibis received Fulbright and FONCA(Mexican NEA) scholarships to pursue graduate study in music. In 2015, Ibis graduated from San Diego State University with a Master of Music in Choral Conducting.

Ibis works as a professor of music in Tijuana, and has participated in the San Diego Choral Consortium since 2021, including serving on the Board of Directors. In 2019, Ibis received a FONCA grant to produce an album of Colonial American music, including some unpublished works, with her ensemble Camerata XXXI. In 2024, Ibis founded the Chimaera Ensemble, a semi-professional chamber orchestra based in Tijuana, which recently made its performance debut to enthusiastic reviews.
