CROSSINGS
CCM Wind Symphony
Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE)
Kevin Michael Holzman, music director and conductor
A program highlighting works celebrating how song is woven into the fabric of original compositions. These pieces reveal how familiar melodies can cross from their original form into complex modern compositions — from Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, which transforms English folk songs into vivid, character-filled miniatures, and David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 2, which incorporates tradition African American melody “Deep River” into a deeply spiritual symphonic journey, to John Carter’s Cantata, which reimagines spirituals and sacred song through fresh harmonic and rhythmic language.
🎵 GRAINGER: Lincolnshire Posy
🎵 CARTER: Cantata, tr. Ehrlich
🎵 MASLANKA: Symphony No. 2
⏱️ Estimated run time: 2 hours
📍 Location: Corbett Auditorium, CCM Village, University of Cincinnati
🎟️ Tickets: $19.50 adult, $15 student, $15 UC faculty/staff, $10 UC student, $5 CCM student; group discounts available. Purchase tickets online at https://ccmonstage.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=3461
