Maurice Ravel (1875–1937) holds a central place in the 20th-century piano repertoire. His works for the instrument are known for their imagination, precision and exacting technical demands. Drawing on Baroque and Classical forms as well as Spanish influences, jazz and the evolving harmonic language of his time, Ravel developed a distinctive approach to texture and sonority at the keyboard. This recital features Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte, Jeux d’eau, Sonatine, Le tombeau de Couperin, Valses nobles et sentimentales and Gaspard de la nuit. Heard together, these works trace Ravel’s unique sound world, forming a compelling portrait of this beloved composer. Estimated run time: 110 minutes, including intermission
