CBC's Canada Reads is coming to the Fraser Valley!
Meet the local Abbotsford CBC News team at this special event in conjunction with Canada Reads.
CBC Abbotsford reporter Baneet Braich will sit down for an intimate conversation with 2026 Canada Reads finalist Loghan Paylor, author of The Cure for Drowning, and defender Tegan Quin at the Clearbrook Library on March 11.
The interview will be recorded and broadcast at a later date.
There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience, and Loghan and Tegan have graciously agreed to stick around for a book signing afterward.
The event, held at 32320 George Ferguson Way, runs from 7 p.m. PT, until 8:25 p.m. Doors open at 6:45. Registration is free, but seating is limited. Guests will need to show proof of registration and photo identification at the door.
The discussion will be followed by a chance to meet the panelists, have your book signed and win great prizes!
About the book:
Born Kathleen to an immigrant Irish farming family in southern Ontario, Kit McNair has been a troublesome changeling since, at ten, they fell through the river ice and drowned—only to be nursed back to life by their mother's Celtic magic. A daredevil in boy's clothes, Kit chafes at every aspect of a farmgirl's life, driving that same mother to distraction with worry about where Kit will ever fit in. Landon signs up for the Navy. Kit, now known as Christopher, joins the Royal Air Force, becoming a bomber navigator relied on for his luck and courage. Rebekah serves with naval intelligence in Halifax, until one more collision with Landon changes the course of her life and draws her back to the McNair farm—a place where she'd once known love. Fallen on even harder times, the McNairs welcome all the help she is able to give, and she believes she has found peace at last. Until, with the war over, Kit and Landon return home. About the author:
Loghan Paylor is a queer, trans author who lives in Abbotsford, B.C. Their short fiction and essays have previously appeared in Room and Prairie Fire, among others. Paylor has a Master's in creative writing from the University of British Columbia. The Cure for Drowning is their first novel.
About the defender:
Tegan Quin is one half of Canadian singer-songwriter duo Tegan and Sara. The pair has sold more than 1 million records, have won multiple Juno Awards and even received a Grammy nomination. They've also written three books together.
