On August 19, 1876, the Catalpa pulled into New York harbor after rescuing the Freemantle Six - James Wilson, Thomas Darragh, Martin Hogan, Michael Harrington, Thomas Hassett, and Robert Cranston - Irish Republican political prisoners.
