Free Reign Theatre Company presents Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” August 5th-9th at The Mercantile near Downtown, Rock Hill.
In the early 1950s, the wealthy Pollitt family gathers at the family plantation house in the Mississippi Delta to celebrate the birthday of their patriarch, Big Daddy. But beneath the surface, things are far from harmonious in this family. Big Daddy and his wife, Big Mama, have spent decades in a loveless marriage. Their beloved youngest son, Brick, has descended into alcoholism following a tragedy, and his marriage to his wife, Maggie, is on the rocks. The eldest son, Gooper, and his wife, Mae, resent the favoritism shown to Brick and Maggie, and are scheming to take over Big Daddy’s estate. Over the course of the evening, tensions will erupt, truths will be revealed, and the family members will be forced to confront the lies and dysfunction their family is built upon.
