Come along to Castleford’s Roman Festival for a day of history-fuelled fun! This free, family-friendly festival offers visitors an opportunity to discover the fascinating Roman heritage of Castleford.
Wander through the Roman Market and go back in time as you absorb the sounds and smells of a bygone era! Castleford’s Roman Legionary Marcus Valerius Calvinus will be hosting free, drop-in guided walking tours to show you the history hiding beneath Castleford’s streets.
Visitors can also explore a day in the life of soldiers and civilians in a family-friendly theatre show ‘A Day in Lagentium’ which will dive headfirst into life as a Roman, from breakfast to barracks, from the great to the gross!
Children can hunt for treasures at Pontefract Young Archaeologists Club’s archaeological dig whilst learning more about archaeology and the tools used.
Alongside free face painting, street entertainment and craft workshops – the Castleford Roman Festival is not one to miss!
