This contemporary adaptation of The Winter’s Tale sets Shakespeare’s story in modern California—the “Bear Flag State”—where opportunity and instability exist side by side.Using the iconic stage direction “Exit, pursued by a bear” as a central metaphor, the production explores the forces shaping life today: housing instability, economic inequality, environmental crisis, and the growing divide between the tech industry and artistic communities.
At its heart, this is a story about loss, survival, and the possibility of forgiveness—about what it takes to rebuild a life, a community, and a sense of belonging in a world that doesn’t make it easy.
Audition times are April 4 from 10 A.M. to six P.M. and April 6 from six P.M. to ten P.M. at the coastal rep theater in Half Moon Bay.
