Learn about how to fish in our local rivers and around the barrier islands. We will be shrimping over low tide off Red Bird Creek. This is a beginner's class that will teach you to throw a cast net, and hopefully, we'll catch ourselves a shrimp dinner! This is perfect for new Georgians.
Anyone joining the class who is 16 or over are required to have they're GA fishing permit. We only have a few cast nets, so guest are encouraged to bring their own if possible. If you would like to keep the shrimp you catch, then we recommend bringing a small cooler.
Admission: $6 per person plus $5 ParkPass per vehicle

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER:
Located south of Savannah on the Ogeechee River, Fort McAllister showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864 -- ending Gen. William T. Shermanβs βMarch to the Sea.β Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a furnace, bombproof, barracks, palisades, and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video, and gift shop.
Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss, and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating, and picnicking. Seven cabins sit on stilts near the marsh, surrounded by palm trees and palmettos. The shaded campground is bordered by tidal Redbird Creek, a boat ramp, fishing dock, and nature trail. A large picnic area offers river views and playgrounds, while another boat ramp provides access to the Ogeechee River.
