Carson's April 11, 2026, Mohonk's Sky High Bonticou Crag and Caves

Our hike is a combination of primitive and carriage trails, air conditioned boulder caves, and a fun yet challenging rock scramble (bypass available).

The rock scramble is moderate for most although it can be psychologically challenging especially for adults who have amassed fears over time.

Ride shares available depending on drivers. The contribution is $35 cash if you need a ride. The ride is approximately 1:45 min. long to the foothills to the Catskills.

Anyone joining the group for the hike needs to register.

There is a Mohonk Preserve Park Use fee: ~$15 per person. Paid upon to Ranger at the parking lot entrance.

It is free to join the group and tag along.

In case of rain forecast, the decision will be confirmed Friday as to start time or cancellation. Details will be emailed out no later than Friday, and any important last minute changes will be texted to you.

• Pace: Casual (Not recommended for beginners)

What to bring:

• Hiking boots/shoes with traction and good ankle support
• Lunch
• At least 2+ liters hydration
• Day pack to leave your hands free
• Rain jacket if there is possibility of rain
• Cash (apres hike bite and brew, if ridesharing, and park use fee)

Optional:

• Climbing gloves
• Camera
• Bug repellent (yes they are out)
• Sunscreen
• Hat
• Spare shirt for after the hike (highly suggested)
• Spare comfortable shoes if you want to spare your feet as a passenger in a car
• Snacks
