SOUTH HAVEN, MI - Members of the Carousel Organ Association of America will be performing Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 7 during the Michigan Flywheelers Museum’s antique engine and tractor show.
Known for their loud, lively sound, often mimicking the sound of a full band, about 20 of the mechanical instruments of all shapes and sizes will be on display along with owners explaining about their instrument while they play a song or two.
Carousel organs were a prominent feature of entertainment venues in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, providing music for carousels, dance halls, and other public spaces. They are typically housed in ornate, decorative cases and are mechanically operated using items like perforated paper rolls or pinned cylinders to control the pipes and percussion instruments.
The 42nd annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show starts Thursday, Sept. 4 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025. Along with hundreds of antique farm machinery, there is entertainment, a large outdoor flea market, kids activities and more. Admission is $10 per person with children 12 and under free and includes all events. Thursday is Senior Citizen Day with admission reduced to $5 for 62 and older, and admission on Sunday is $5 for everyone. Gates open at 8 a.m.
