Carnival-Themed Fundraiser Celebrates 10-Year Transplant Anniversary With Preview of "Hold Please!"

The October fundraiser and original play "Hold Please!" mark a very special time for me; July 19th was the 10 year anniversary of my kidney transplant and 25 years since the inception of True Repertory Theatre. Our October 3rd event provides me with a wonderful opportunity to recognize and thank everyone who has been on this amazing journey with me. I hope you can join us for a fun-filled evening. True Repertory Theatre will host a unique, carnival-themed
fundraising event on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Pembroke Community Center. The event brings together arts and advocacy to celebrate life, honor medical heroes, and benefit both the Mass General Brigham Transplant Center and True Repertory Theatre Company.
The event's amusement park theme directly echoes the staging of "Hold Please!," an original play written by a collaboration of True Rep artists. The production chronicles Sheehan’s personal journey with kidney disease and the life-saving transplant he received exactly ten years ago. Guests at the fundraiser will be treated to an exclusive sneak peek of the play ahead of its full theatrical run.
"Hold Please!" will officially open for a limited engagement from Oct. 17 through Oct. 25 at True Repertory’s home, the Beal House in Kingston. Through this deeply personal work, Sheehan aims to spotlight the critical, ongoing need for organ donors and
celebrate the profound, life-changing power of that gift. This original work opening their 26/27 season highlights True Rep’s commitment to produce new works on the South Shore.
Sheehan has dedicated the October 3rd fundraiser, the play and its performances to the memory of Dr. Cecil Coggins, his longtime nephrologist who passed away in 2019, honoring Dr. Coggins'
decades of compassionate medical service and guidance.
The fundraising event will feature themed entertainment, interactive carnival elements, and opportunities to support both the local arts and transplant patient care.
