ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Gabrielle Chou

A New York-based pianist and violinist with a uniquely exciting and multifaceted career on both instruments. In addition to performing nationally and internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician, Gabrielle also teaches both her instruments and all musical subjects, coaches chamber music and orchestra, premieres and champions new music, collaborates on multidisciplinary works, and develops community engagement initiatives. Her education includes the Colburn Music Academy, The Juilliard School, and the CUNY Graduate Center, where she received her D.M.A. writing her dissertation on play elements and game mechanics in music. Her teachers include Jerome Lowenthal and Richard Goode on piano, Lewis Kaplan on violin, and Emanuel Ax, Timothy Eddy, Joseph Kalichstein, Matti Raekallio, and Sylvia Rosenberg for chamber music.

Gabrielle is a 2026-27 National Arts Club Fellow, the winner of the Center for Musical Excellence’s 2018 International Performing Arts Grant, and has been a piano and violin soloist with orchestras throughout the US, Europe, and Asia. While Gabrielle plays the breadth of repertoire for both instruments, she is particularly passionate about chamber and contemporary music and enjoys all forms of collaboration with musicians of any genre and artists of any medium. She has premiered works at Juilliard, the Yale School of Music, National Sawdust, the Avaloch Music Institute, Klavierhaus, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Currently Gabrielle serves as faculty at Juilliard, teaching piano, chamber music, and keyboard skills in the Preparatory and Extension Divisions, as well as chamber music and orchestra faculty at the New York Youth Symphony and Riverdale Country School. She is a founding member of the contemporary chamber collective Away From Keyboard and plays with ensembles around the nation, including The Concert Truck, PinkNoise, Soundbox Ventures, Metropolis Ensemble, Nu Deco Ensemble, the Center for Musical Excellence, and Concerts for Compassion. Shu-Wei Tseng

An internationally acclaimed Taiwanese-British musician, renowned for her extraordinary technical prowess and artistic depth. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across four continents, captivating audiences in major concert halls on both the piano and cello.

With over three decades of performing career under her belt and 25+ years of teaching experience in four languages on three continents, Shu-Wei has held esteemed positions at prestigious institutions, including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, The Yehudi Menuhin School, and the University of Colorado at Boulder, alongside giving regular lectures/workshops and masterclasses internationally as well as occasionally serving as an international competition jury member. Here in New York, since 2024, Shu-Wei has joined the faculty at 92NY, RWS Global, NYCM, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and most recently joined the substitute team at CUNY and The Juilliard School.

She had the honour of opening the 75th D-Day Commemoration Concert in Normandy of France on the piano, representing the United Kingdom. She was also the first Taiwanese musician to perform at the Embassy Series at London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields, representing Taiwan, as well as the Taiwan Culture Salon in London, UK, sponsored by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture. 

Shu-Wei’s impressive educational background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from CU Boulder, as well as LRAMs, MMus, and BMus (Hons) from London’s Royal Academy of Music on her two instruments, MSc. in Psychology, alongside holding UK’s PGCE & NPQSL teaching and leadership permanent licenses. Her dedication to music education and performance earned her the title of Global Ambassador of CU Boulder, USA (Since 2022), and joined the Forever Buffs Advisory Board in June 2024 to serve a three-year term.
