𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐚’ 𝐂𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 (𝟗𝟔𝟑𝐦, 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐨) - 𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐞
Carn a’ Chlamain is a long day for end-of-autumn. Biking-in is recommended on a good track, 7-8km, saving time and effort. Nonetheless, good bike lights are required for the ride out. Take-away chippy “Food in the Park” available until 20:00 at the Museum car park (other joints are available).
Start from the CP 250m SW of the Old Bridge of Tilt, NN874662. Head N out of the CP. The track to follow starts almost opposite the entrance. Head N on the W side of the River Tilt for 2.4km and cross the river at the Cumhann-leum Bridgeᵉˣ. Continue to follow the river N on its E side, curving NE past Gilberts Bridge to reach Gaw’s Bridgeᵉˣ just after Marble Lodge. Re-cross the river and continue E on the track for a further 0.8km to a bridge over the Allt Craoinidh at the foot of the long S ridge of Carn a’ Chlamain, NN908³⁸720²².
If cycling, leave the bikes here. A path, not represented on OS maps, leads steeply N up the nose on the E side of the Allt Craoinidh. Join a track at 410m alt. as the gradient eases, and follow it up NNE for 3.1km, curving NW to reach the summit after a further 1km. Return by the outward route.
