Carly Schwartz I’LL TRY ANYTHING TWICE
We are thrilled to host for an evening devoted to her memoir, (She Writes Press), a vivid and vulnerable portrayal of the search for belonging, the definition of success, and the risks we’re willing to take in order to learn how to love ourselves. This book is for readers who wish “Eat, Pray, Love” had a cynical streak – it’s a fiercely original memoir about a journalist’s quest to conquer depression and addiction, set against the backdrop of international adventures and modern communal living. Carly will be in conversation with Medill’s Patti Wolter (and Carly’s former professor!). Followed by a book-signing. This is a free, ticketed event.
Doors and minibar open at 5:30PM
Getting here: We are located at 1620 Orrington Avenue, in downtown Evanston, just one block east of the Davis Street Metra and CTA public transit stops. There is metered street parking as well as numerous parking garages nearby.

About the book:
“A compelling and compulsively readable tale told in a funny, deeply human voice…Schwartz guides readers through a page-turning journey that will be all too relatable to anyone who’s struggled with mental health issues.” – Kirkus Reviews
“Sharp, lively, evocative prose, laced with wit and powered by rare candor, immerses readers in each moment...Schwartz’s dedication to the truth is inspiring.” – Publishers Weekly BookLife
“The author's unflinching self-awareness made this book stand out from others in the genre. The tone balances dark humor with accountability, which is hard to pull off but powerful when done well.” – Readers' Favorite, five-star review
“With ‘I’ll Try Anything Twice,’ Carly Schwartz has created a coming-of-age story for modern times. From the jungles of Central America to co-living in San Francisco, from the arid Burning Man Playa to the excesses of Silicon Valley — all experienced through a lens of treatment-resistant depression — this book is a primer on the costs of escape and the benefits of radical self-honesty. The best memoirs hold up a mirror not just to an author but also to a culture at large. ‘I'll Try Anything Twice’ achieves both. It’s a story for anyone longing for connection in these disconnected times.” – Hope Edelman, New York Times bestselling author of “Motherless Daughters”
