DAVE MAROTTA
4 & 5 string bass, fretless bass & piccolo bass
Dave Marotta was born into a musical family in Monterey, California. His father was a musician and owned the premiere music store, ABC Music, on the Central Coast. From the age of five, Dave played classical guitar and studied with the many fine musicians that frequented his dad’s music store. At age 12, he attended the Monterey Pop Festival and was drawn to the bass playing of Noel Redding from Jimi Hendrix' band. Shortly thereafter, Dave picked up a bass from his dad's store and has been playing the instrument exclusively since that time.
Upon completing two years of music studies at Monterey Peninsula College, Dave moved to Los Angeles where he has been a fixture on the LA studio scene performing on records and jingles, for movies and television productions. Dave is also actively involved in music production as well as contracting musicians for recording sessions.
He has toured and recorded with artists such as B.B. King, Phil Collins, Burt Bacharach, Gino Vannelli, Manhattan Transfer, Bruce Hornsby, David Benoit and many others. During the last few years, projects have included working on Colbie Callaits' debut platinum-selling album, Coco, on Universal-Republic and Kenny Loggins’ release, How About Now, plus the movies What Happens In Vegas and Wild Hogs. He recently performed as a guest bassist for the Band From TV featuring actresses Terri Hatcher and Bonnie Somerfield, and actors Greg Grunberg and James Denton.
JOHN MADER
Drums, Percussion and Vocals
John began playing drums at the age of 5 in Oakland California. Oakland proved to be a perfect incubator for John as he thrived playing in many of the school, community, rock, jazz, and funk bands in the area. This experience gave John a diverse background that continues to serve him well today. Early in his career, John was playing in local bands opening for such diverse acts as George Benson, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Who (two North American tours), and many more.
John’s reputation quickly grew and he found himself playing with San Francisco/Oakland/ Bay Area legends including Joshua Redman, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), and Miles Davis band alumni Barry Finnerty, Garth Webber, and Benny Rietveld.
John continued to cast his net as wide as possible. He began getting calls from New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, and New Orleans to audition with such artists as Ray Charles, Peter Frampton, Pee Wee Ellis, Stephen Jenkins (Third Eye Blind), Cake, and many more. These experiences gave John national exposure which has led to local, touring, and/or studio dates with Josh Groban, John Fogarty, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Newman, Pat Benatar, Steve Miller, Booker T., The Family Stone, Patti Austin, Angela Bofil, Pee Wee Ellis, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Oz Noy and many more.
John performed on three tours playing with Stu Hamm’s BX3 featuring Stu, Billy Sheehan, and Jeff Berlin. In his “spare” time, John has held the drum chair for the Tony Award winning musicals Wicked (original New York cast) and The Lion King (San Francisco). He has also been the west coast drummer for the hit musical Hamilton for the last 3 years. He has been a member of the Carl Verheyen Band since 2015.
