Caregiver Cafe: Decoding Difficult Behaviors
About this Event
Decoding Difficult Behaviors: A Caregiver Café for Families Supporting Someone with Dementia
Caring for a loved one with dementia can bring changes that are confusing, exhausting, and sometimes painful. Repeating the same question, refusing care, anger, agitation, sleep changes, or sudden mood shifts are often not intentional. They are communication.
Join us for a free lunch and practical caregiver education focused on understanding the “why” behind difficult dementia-related behaviors and how to respond in ways that reduce stress for both you and your loved one.
Hosted by Get Care at Home, a Sacramento Favorites award-winning organization specializing in dementia support, Caregiver Café is a monthly gathering created for family caregivers who need practical tools, local resources, and a place to feel understood.
During this session, you will learn how to:
- Recognize common triggers behind agitation, resistance, repetition, and confusion
- Respond without escalating the situation
- Use simple communication techniques that support dignity and connection
- Create a calmer home environment
- Know when a behavior may require medical attention or additional support
You will also have time to connect with other caregivers, ask questions, and meet local community resources.
A Care Planning Check-Up Station will be available for general questions about Medi-Cal, long-term care insurance, VA benefits, and options for paying for care.
Join a supportive space for caregivers to learn, connect, and leave with information they can use right away.
Lunch is provided at no cost. Space is limited to 15 caregivers.
You do not have to figure this out alone.
