About this Event
Sharing our lives with dogs should be fun and relaxing, right? Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Not because you don't love your dog or your dog doesn't love you back, but miscommunications and misunderstandings can happen quickly, especially between two different species. So, when your dog pulls you off your feet on walks or lunges at other dogs or people, or you come home to mayhem, how does that make you feel? Frustrated? At your wits end? Please understand that your feelings are valid, and that your life with your dog(s) is about to take a turn for the better when you attend this event.
The Event
Without a doubt, learning is easier with fun and in a group of like-minded people. For that reason, we are bringing together three trainers from three different but complimentary backgrounds to host this special dog behavior and coaching clinic to help you get your relationship with your dog(s) back on track. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, you can participate and learn in one of two ways:
- Owner-dog team: Bring your dog for hands-on coaching before a group of people eager to learn with you. If this is what you want to do, please register now to reserve one of only 5 open spots. If you attend with your dog, please watch out for additional information sent to you by email from [email protected] (make sure to check your spam or junk folders). Note: for safety and liability reasons we can only accept 1 dog per participant, and no dogs with a bite history.
- Learn by watching: Even if, for whatever reason, you cannot bring your dog, auditing 5 different coaching sessions in addition to chatting with the coaches over pizza offers a great learning opportunity.
Lunch
Pizza lunch for all participants in both groups is included. So, please bring your appetite as well as a pen and paper to jot down whatever information you may want to hang on to.
What to expect from your coaches
As mentioned above, you will have access to three different trainers, and thus, three different training approaches throughout the event.
The thing to know about Scott Stauffer is that he isn't a traditional trainer, he is a K9 Life Coach. As such, his focus is on helping you build a deeper emotional connection with your dog, and his approach helps you better understand and address your dog's emotional and physical needs when they arise. When needs are met, dogs feel heard, acknowledged and safe and are less likely to display intense and potentially scary behaviors.

Mary Femniak is a scent dog trainer who understands the fun and emotional bond that scent work fosters between an owner and their dog. This activity is rooted in the idea of partnership where "people step back and dogs step into it". Mary will show you how you can dive into and apply the benefits of scent work on a therapeutic, recreational or working level.

A big thank you to Sarah Oden for generously hosting this event on her home turf. In addition to her extensive experience in dog training as well as animal rescue, which spans a variety of species including horses, cats, rats and numerous farm animals, Sarah is currently enrolled in the Affective Dog Behavior program to become a certified Affective Canine Therapist and ADB Instructor. Her combination of traditional training skills and understanding of Affective Dog Behavior makes her uniquely qualified to effectively moderate the event and provide support not only to Scott Stauffer and Mary Femniak but also to you.

Please note that this event will be filmed either in parts or in its entirety for future educational and promotional purposes!
