Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries

• Tuesday, July 28th - 12:00pm until 3:00pm
• Wednesday, July 29th - NO CLASS
• Thursday, July 30th - 12:00pm until 3:00pm

Participants MUST attend ALL 3 sessions (at least 95%) attendance rate and successfully pass course assessments to receive credit for the course.

In the event of inclement weather, the impacted session will be held virtually.

Course Description:

Participants will learn basic aspects of Athletic Training including injury prevention, recognition, management, and treatment techniques of various musculoskeletal and athletic injuries. This course is also to provide prospective coaches, athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, other allied health professionals, and interested individuals the theoretical and practical knowledge of the prevention, evaluation and care of athletic injuries and illnesses.

Coaches will be evaluated and observed throughout the course using a variety of methods. Checks for understanding will occur frequently throughout each section and be administered using a combination of group and individual responses using an online platform like Google Forms for tracking purposes. Students will be expected to achieve a minimum of 70% proficiency on each assessment. Practical evaluations for physical evaluation, treatment selection, and providing supportive measures (i.e. taping/bracing) will be done multiple times throughout the course to ensure mastery.
