About this Event
Cardiff Youth Service digital team are once again offering a unique opportunity this summer for young people aged 12-17 to take part in a digital summer camp! It will run for 7 days over a 2 week period.
During the camp you will work in small groups to come up with compelling stories, record and edit them, and then share them in our premiere show on the final day. Through the programme you will learn or further develop skills around script writing, team work, camera work, reporting, editing and special effects (including using green screen and virtual production like in The Mandalorian!). You will finish the camp with some tremendous storytelling and video production skills that may lead to even more amazing opportunities for you.
Youth workers from Cardiff Youth Service will be running the programme along with Doug Green, an American broadcaster who has over 30 years experience working with young people in the industry. Doug and the Carlsbad High school Television programme have a had a partnership with Cardiff Youth Service for over a year β the partnership has resulted in an international exchange where young creators from Cardiff visited California, and the Butetown Buzz even won an Outstanding Broadcasting Award in the prestigous STN contest! Watch the winning episode below.
Young people can only be involved in the Cardiff Content Creators programme for a maximum of 3 years, either as a participant or a Young Leader.
Joining the camp will be 10 student volunteers from Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, California. These students have won multiple national awards for filmmaking and live television broadcasting. They will participate as campers by helping to teach all aspects of moviemaking (filming, editing, special effects, amazing editing tricks, and how to shoot professional video for YouTube and social media). They are looking forward to learning about the Welsh culture and sharing a little about the American culture with you too. Below is a link of the sort of Broadcast the student volunteers make daily at school in America that get viewed by 3000 people each day!!
Cardiff and Vale college are supporting this project and the camp will take place on their city centre campus on Dumballs Road. There will also be a tour of BBC Cymru, Wales on day 4.
