A certified course exploring carbon data, calculation, and its role in art, design and creative practices
About this Event

What does it really mean when a product claims to be carbon neutral, sustainable or environmentally friendly?

As environmental claims become increasingly common across the creative industries, understanding the evidence behind them is an essential skill for future creative practitioners. But how can we distinguish meaningful climate action from misleading claims?

This Carbon Literacy course introduces the science of climate change, the principles of net zero and the role of carbon data in measuring environmental impacts. Through examples drawn from creative practice, we'll explore emissions at global, organisational, product and material scales, learning how to interpret environmental evidence, question assumptions and critically assess the claims made by businesses, brands and institutions.

You'll develop the knowledge and confidence to make more informed decisions in your studies, everyday life and future creative practice. The course also offers the opportunity to gain Carbon Literacy certification, a nationally recognised qualification, by developing two practical climate action pledges that contribute to reducing emissions.

The course is delivered by UAL's Net Zero and Sustainability Team. It is offered free of charge to all students across UAL.

The course will run from 9:30-4pm, at Central Saint Martins, Kings Cross. You must be currently enrolled in a course at the University of the Arts London in order to attend.
