Capturing Vancouver Through the Lens

Join us for a photowalk through downtown Vancouver. We’ll meet at 725 West Georgia Street and spend the afternoon photographing the city’s architecture, street life, and shifting light.

This walk is open to photographers of all experience levels who are interested in exploring and documenting the urban landscape. Whether you shoot film, digital, or mobile, you’re welcome to take part.

Street photography is about capturing urban life as it happens. It is less about staging and more about noticing. Paying attention to small interactions, gestures, and how people move through space. The city is constantly changing, and the goal is to anticipate moments as they unfold rather than react after the fact.

We’ll focus on framing scenes using urban elements such as windows, doorways, shadows, and lines to create structure within the image. We’ll also work with reflections, using glass, puddles, and polished surfaces to layer scenes and shift perspective. The aim is to slow down, observe carefully, and be deliberate about how each frame is constructed.

Your guides, Chris McCann and Jake Wong, are founding members of a Vancouver street photography collective and bring over 15 years of experience working in the genre.

By registering for this tour, you acknowledge that it involves walking in urban areas of Vancouver and taking photographs in public spaces.

You understand that participation involves risks, including but not limited to traffic, uneven surfaces, weather conditions, interactions with the public, and carrying personal belongings such as camera equipment.

You agree to follow all instructions provided by the tour leader, act respectfully toward others, and comply with all applicable laws.

You confirm that you are physically able to participate in a walking tour and authorize the organizer to seek medical assistance on your behalf if necessary.
