2026 is here and with it come so many sentiments and hopes and yet also with so many questions swirling around in our minds about current events happening in the world, or regarding decisions we need to make for and with our loved ones and or difficult ethical choices we might be facing right now.This also might be a good time to explore thirty questions on an array of dramatic and historic situations and quandaries, which Jewish communities have faced over the course of history, in our engaging new course "Rabbinic Responsa".
It’s the hidden inbox of Jewish history: real people in real situations, writing to great rabbis across the centuries. Sometimes the questions are surprisingly modern and sometimes they are unexpected. But almost always, they carry the same quiet pulse: “Help me live with meaning here.”
Some of the thirty cases include questions such as;
"Can I ransom my son from the Nazis at the expense of another child?"
"Can I be forced to pay a communal tax for the Jewish community?"
"Can DNA have any input Halacha"
"Does AI have a place in Judaism?"
"Can older questions about Halacha and health inform medical decisions today?"
The course is called Captivating Cases in Rabbinic Responsa and in six sessions, you’ll walk away with three things people crave right now:
Clarity
You’ll see how Torah thinks when the answer is not obvious, how facts are clarified, how precedent is weighed, and how competing values are balanced until a clear, livable path emerges.
Connection
You’ll meet the Jews behind the questions and feel the human drama behind Jewish history, not as timelines, but as lived moments of courage, struggle, creativity, and faith.
A sense of Grounding
There is something deeply strengthening about watching generations of Jews face change and pressure and still refuse to let circumstances define them. You leave with language, perspective, and a steadier inner compass for your own life.
If you enjoy great stories, smart thinking, and Judaism that feels alive and relevant, I think you’ll love this course.
We begin on Tuesday evening Jan 27th with a six-week course with an in-person class and with an option to do it via Zoom.
This course is CLE accredited in most States.
