Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines music, dance, acrobatics, and self-defense. This high-energy class is open to all levels—no experience necessary. Come learn basic movements, rhythm, and traditional songs while exploring the rich cultural history behind this powerful art form. Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to move!
About the instructor:
Alexandro Silveira, known as Contramestre Morcego, is a martial artist, musician, graphic designer, and tattoo artist who leads Mass Capoeira Luanda in Webster. Born in Salvador, Bahia, the cultural home of capoeira, Contramestre Morcego has more than 30 years of experience training and teaching capoeira throughout Brazil and the US, including at local institutions such as Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Clark University, and Mass Capoeira Culture Center.
